COP26 generated long-overdue and critical momentum on loss and damage. Translating that momentum into action requires sustained and specific focus, across a broad group of actors and institutions.

The roundtable will bring together a range of interested parties with the aim of identifying commitment and specific areas for progress. It will also address the opportunities ahead and the alliances required in order to move loss and damage to delivery and action over the next 12 – 24 months, including at COP27 and beyond.

The event is intended to directly support the momentum achieved on loss and damage at COP26. It will primarily focus on exploring the role and actions of non-party governments and non-state actors (NSAs).

The roundtable will be organised in two parts. The first leadership segment will enable government representatives and NSA leaders to set out their ambitions on the actions they think should be taken on loss and damage. The second section, with practitioners and officials, will build on this to identify specific areas, inputs and opportunities that can be taken ahead of COP27.

The key objectives of the roundtable are to:

Identify the roles non-party governments and non-state actors should take to address loss and damage

Scope potential outputs, outcomes and milestones for loss and damage over the coming 12 – 24 months

Agree next steps as appropriate amongst attendees.

The event is planned to take place virtually and joining details will be provided closer to the date.

Under2 Coalition members wishing to register their attendance should contact Ruth Mattock, from the Scottish Government by close of play on Friday 18 February.
