Non-economic loss and damage (NELD) or non-market loss and damage refers to the adverse consequences of climate change on tangible and intangible items, that have not been or cannot be adapted to. A prevailing characteristics of NELD items are that they are not traded in markets and therefore have no market value. For this reason they pose significant challenges to decision-makers and make estimates on future cost of climate change grossly under represent the reality on the ground.
